Katherine May in conversation with Jenny Devitt.
Wintering is a memoir which explores the fallow periods in life - the times of loss, illness, rejection - and argues that nature can show us the way through them. Katherine records her experience of a difficult but also a transformative and inspirational year, whilst researching the book she crossed the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights (whilst 7 months pregnant), did some whale-watching in Iceland, and attended the winter solstice celebrations at Stonehenge.
From meditation apps to forest bathing, and trends like hygge and lagom, we seem hungry for invitations toward rest and introspection, especially this year as many people have been forced into hibernation and separation. Wintering focuses on how important, though challenging, these periods of withdrawal are for healing.
